How did I Am Super come to life?
On June 11th, 2025, Allison Felty and I joined the kickoff meeting for the 7-Day Shootout. The last time we competed in this competition was in 2022 with the birth of our beloved short film Freakin’ Fantasy.
This year, we drew the genre Superhero. We were excited but also nervous, knowing this would be a challenging category. I knew I wanted to incorporate some special effects, and we both felt it was important to tell a classic, blockbuster, style superhero story.
That evening, Allison and I got to work, writing late into the night until I Am Super was born.
We came together with such a talented cast and crew. It was an honor to work alongside Jacob Morelock, Drew and Alexander Zimmerman, Tonya Brown, Allison Felty, and Matthew Dennis.
This was easily the most challenging set we’ve worked on so far. Superhero films require technical precision and creative ambition, and our team rose to the occasion with resilience, skill, and dedication.
I am incredibly proud of everyone involved in this film and especially grateful to Tonya Brown for helping us with the location. More Superhero news coming soon.
